Color grading in computer color space vs video
by Bruce Stubblefield on May 17, 2008 at 9:54:47 pm

Hello,
We're cutting a feature on QT ProRez HQ files rendered from 4K RED camera masters. In addition to cutting the feature, we're simultaneously cutting a short product reel from the same files. The product reel will be viewed by prospective distributors, etc., 95% of the time on DVD's. For this end product, how critical is it to grade in Color using a video output card and LCD video monitor, as opposed to grading in the Mac Pro color space on the consumer 28" or 30" LCD monitor.

many thanks for your thoughts

Bruce S

Viewing your work on an LCD monitor being fed by your computer's DVI port will look much different than a DVD playing back on a TV set.
