Rendering/Outputting with Color
by Jeffrey Andrews on May 13, 2008 at 4:08:14 am

I have a film that I shot on a DVX-100B. For right now I need to print to a MiniDV tape for a preliminary screening, here is my issue:

Captured the footage as DV/NTSC 1:1 in FCP 6. Edited everything and now am ready to send to Color for corrections. After I am done I only get options to render out in ProRes HQ, ProRes, 8-Bit Uncompressed, or 10-Bit Uncompressed. If I render to these high quality codecs and send the project back to FCP will they still work in a DV/NTSC sequence? Will they print to a MiniDV tape?

I tried and am not having any luck. Thank you!

[Jeffrey Andrews] "Captured the footage as DV/NTSC 1:1 in FCP 6."

Never heard it described this way. DV/NTSC is a 5:1 compressed codec.

No, if you have a DV-NTSC timeline and you use the Send To Color Option, you'll have the option to render in "Original Format." I just completed a rather large DV project last week and everything was rendered native DV.

This will result in another round of 5:1 DV compression and not what you want.
