hanging on save
by Richard Sutcliffe (pom_boarder) on May 7, 2008 at 9:53:32 pm

Hi.

Has anyone experienced Color hanging on a save? I have my auto save set regularly and it works fine but as soon as I save any project color hangs. doesnt seem to matter where the project is located or how small or large the project is. Any suggestions?

Your default save location is inaccessible. Offline or the path is invalid... or not set at all?

negative to all those.

Tried changing the paths for default directories to no avail. Still hangs up.

If you're talking about hitting save, watching the spinning beach ball for 30 seconds or more before the Saving progress bar comes up - I have exactly the same issue.

I saves fine, but I have to watch the beachball for up to a minute each time - really annoying when you habitually hit Cmd-S.

I see the same time at times in FCP as well, on seemingly menial tasks, like moving on the timelime and clicking on drop-down select options in dialogue boxes and stuff. Not consistently there however.

I've also had a few encounters with seemingly unmotivated beachball hang ups in Avid Media Composer.

The only commonality I can think of so far is my Blackmagic Decklink HD Extreme card (Avid doesn't do it when the Mojo is attached, but when I'm editing with fullscreen playback out the Blackmagic it does it).

I have the same issue. Auto-save works fine, but command-s makes the beachball spin for 30 seconds or more before it begins to save the project. I don't think it has to do with the Blackmagic card, as we have the Aja Kona 3.

[Timo Teravainen] "I have the same issue. Auto-save works fine, but command-s makes the beachball spin for 30 seconds or more before it begins to save the project."

Actually, it's the other way around for me. Auto-Save acts wonky here so I just turn it off.

Figured it out

It's dissolves.

If I have a timeline with 6 clips on it and no dissolves then the sequence will save straight away, but if I have the same timeline, but with a couple of dissolves, then Color will spin the beachball for 30 seconds at least before it actually saves.

Not much help of course, as the dissolves are usually necessary - could add them afterward if you rendered with handles (however you do that) or if you checkerboarded dissolving shots on the FCP timeline before sending.

Personally I really wish Color would show dissolves.
