FCP 6.0.3 and Render to Original
by Joseph Owens (JP Owens) on May 7, 2008 at 4:20:01 pm

Seems like COLOR locks out "Render to Original Format" and forces Uncompressed or ProRes if you Send To...
I haven't tried an XML out yet... but beware. Seems like a little surprise hidden in the upgrade, or does anyone have a way back and forth in DVCProHD under 6.0.3?

I know a lot of folks here are still on 6.0.2 (which does not have this issue) and I had no indication going back to DVCProHD was going to be a problem up until this morning and having a 6.0.3 project handed to me with no other way of opening it. Seems like throwing out the baby with the bathwater only to accommodate a couple more XDCam codecs, which has absolutely nothing to do with this particular project.

It may not be broken... pulled up a project today that I had conform control over, and kept the thing totally in DVCProHD. Render "Original Format" has re-appeared as an option for that project, so probably something mysterious in the external job that won't allow it. Maybe first clip is something not recognized AND is hidden in the XML handoff...

[Joseph Owens] "Maybe first clip is something not recognized AND is hidden in the XML handoff..."

That would be my guess or there is at least one clip somewhere in that timeline that is not DVCPro HD.

The editor had seeded a real minefield. Animation, Intermediate, LIveType, Motion, freezes, motion jpgs, designed to fail.
