Vignette drifting from tracker

Hi all. I'm experiencing some very odd behavior with tracking vignettes (both user created and otherwise) and wanted to pick your considerable brains on it. Two oddities...
1. I create a vignette, size it and place it, then track it in the Geometry room, either manually or automatically, then return to the secondary room... but when I assign the tracker to the shape, the shape jumps to a different area on the screen. I'm on the first frame of the clip, where the tracker has it positioned correctly in the Geometry room, but in the Secondary room it's suddenly off. Okay, I think, just reposition the vignette to where it should be, and maybe it will follow the track correctly, which brings us to...
2. The shape DOES follow the track correctly, but only for 10 frames or so, then it starts slipping, lagging behind the attached tracker, to the point where, at 2/3 of the way through the clip, it's totally off, even though it's generally heading in a similar direction to the tracker.
I'm stumped. A bug? User error? It seems so simple, that the target point of the vignette should adhere right to the tracker point, but I just can't get it to behave.

Are you sure its not the tracker itself going in the wrong direction? Check to see if the point where it drifts coincides with the tracker moving across a similar point of the frame as what you are tracking. It may then need a bit of manual smoothing out.
