problem when color render files are sent back to final cut pro
by Justin Beach on Apr 26, 2008 at 3:33:11 pm

I am currently working on a film festival at the college level and a few of us, myself included, are having a problem with render files from color. I brought and entire scene from the movie I am working on into color and adjusted the saturation as well as the luminance on almost all of the clips. Then I rendered the color files and sent them back to final cut pro. When i looked at the sequence in final cut I realized that a few of the shots looked like they had lost some quality or resolution, however; this did not happen to all of the shots that I worked on. It is as through the clips need to be rendered in final cut but there is no render status bar and when I do a render nothing happens. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DVCPro HD 720p60
frame rate 23.98

we are also having a problem where the last frame of a clip loses its color correction and goes back to its original color when brought into final cut.

thanks for the help

There is something else different about these clips, be it a filter, a flop, a velocity adjustment, something. This doesn't happen randomly.

[Justin Beach] "DVCPro HD 720p60
frame rate 23.98"

Those are two different things.

720/60 is 720/60 at 59.94 frames per second.

720/24 is 720/23.98 at 23.98 frames per second.

It can't be both. You either captured it at 720/24 on the way in or you captured it at 720/60 and then used the Frame Rate Converter to convert the footage.

OR

You captured it at 720/60 and then just placed the footage into a 23.98 timeline which would cause all sorts of issues when you tried the round trip to Color.

Im sorry
I guess I should have said that I am using the P2 workflow because the footage was shot on an HVX

The clips were brought in with the file and transfer feature in final cut 6
Then I let final cut take care of setting the sequence settings.

Im not sure exactly how the pulldown works but the clips are labeled as this in the browser

Video rate 23.98
compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60

sequence settings
frame size 960x720
editing timebase 23.98
compressor DVCPRO HD 720p60

sorry if I am a little behind with understanding all of the different formats.
I am still a student.
