Using rendered matte images/clips to isolate colour corrections?

I'm pretty new to Color and am still learning how to use it. I have come across one main thing that I'm curious about. I noticed that in order to do isolated colour corrections via mattes, or vignettes, you have to create the mattes in the Geometry room. However, is it possible to isolate colour corrections through rendered matte images/clips? I've extracted a matte in Shake and rendered it out and would like to try to use this in Color. Since I'm not nearly as familiar with Color as I am with Shake, I can pull out a matte from Shake effortlessly. As a personal opinion, most likely due to my current lack of knowledge of Color, the matte extraction techniques seem not to be as powerful as compared to Shake.
My apologies if this is an issue that the manual covers. Before writing this, I did try a quick search through key topics and key words for anything that would remotely tackle this issue but had come up short.
It would be in my greatest interest to use both Shake and Color's strengths, and also my own strengths in these programs, to complement each other.

Currently, Color doesn't support clips with alpha channels, nor does it import masks from other programs. So within color, it won't do what you're hoping for.
