film scratch
by Thomas Hughes on Feb 14, 2008 at 11:53:23 pm

When I use Color for film scratch, it takes a long time to render. Are there any third party plug-ins that anyone recommends that will get me there faster? Thank you.

You're trying to fix a scratch in COLOR? One question: Why?

Amen.

What are your system specs? Machine/Graphics Card/Storage? What type of files are you using in Color?

Thanks so much Russ.

It's a G5 10.4.1, dual quad core (3 Ghz)
16 gig ram
with a G-Raid, 3 terrabytes - fiber
the graphics card is the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500
What type of files am I using in Color? Quicktime files fr FC Pro.

I know Boris has film-scratch. would that render faster than color?

There's not a way to fix film scratches in Color. I would suggest an application like Shake, AE, or Boris.

Thanks Russ. No one's trying to fix a film scratch. Film Scratch is an effect. My question is when we apply the effect, "Film Scratch" to a clip, it takes forever to render. Is there a way around this?

Where are you seeing a Film Scratch effect? In the ColorFX room? Did you buy some plug-ins from somewhere? I've never hear of the Film Scratch effect in Color.

It's an effect in Color called Film Look.

[Thomas Hughes] "It's an effect in Color called Film Look."

Well, that explains the confusion.

I don't think you'll find anyone around here to give you benchmarks on if Boris does a "film look" effect faster than Color.

If you're trying to make footage look like old film, with scratches and other fx, Color isn't the right program for that.

You might look at this article for a couple of alternatives:
