Color Crashing - MacBook Pro

Hello to all,
I am just learning Color (apple pro training series). I have just got to the the section for Employing Color FX, and I simply double-click one of the sample clips.
Then, I try to apply a Color FX, say Blue-Movie_Look, and...
CRASHHH!!
Every time. I have tried a few others, some are able to take it, but most make Color "Quit Unexpectedly". This is the same problem that I had with Motion 3.0.1, but then I updated to 3.0.2 and my crashes have decreased probably 95%. I had to update to Color 1.0.2 just to use the project files.
Is this just something that I'm going to have to live with while I am still cutting on a MacBook Pro. It is a 17inch, 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, with 4GB of ram. I have not had to many problems that I have not been able to fix, but I know that this is not ideal. I have not been wanted to actually grade from this computer, but I was hoping that I could at least learn from home while I am bored on a Saturday night (yes, I know I am a geek, but I love this stuff)
If anyone has any thoughts I would love to hear them. Thank you for your time and happy grading.

I had the same problem on my MB Pro 2.4 running under Tiger when working in float in the FX room, after switching to 8 bit when tweaking things it is completely stable.

Working in a much lower bit depth is probably the issue. On a MBP it is likely the ONLY way to go, since they don't actually display anything (given the presentation medium) beyond about the equivalent of about 6 bits. ie... grading on a laptop can be by definition nothing more than an academic exercise.

Could this be an issue with the graphics card ? My MBP still has the ATI X1600, while newer ones have NVidias, which Color doesn't seem to like very much…

May very well be... COLOR has among the tightest, if not the most demanding requirements of the entire FCP suite. It is definitely not a gamer's release intended to run on anything, anywhere, anytime. Their "recommended" configuration, which lately has become a little bit ambiguous (and the new MacPro profile has contributed to this a little bit) is not to be taken lightly.
A lot of people would like to take advantage of this application, given its availability... but the truth is that the software is only one very small piece, the tip of the iceberg if you will, of what is actually required to implement a solid grading solution.
Given the reality and limitations of the laptop environment, in terms of speed, hardware configuration, storage requirements, display, interface, and nearly everything else, including the ambience that the operation is being carried out in... let's put it euphemistically.... "not my first choice"... take a guess at how far down the list it really is....

I have a MacBook Pro that crashes Motion 3.0.2 when I'm trying to so something as simple as changing a fill color in an object. I purchased this laptop with specs that were supposed to handle Motion. (10.5.6, 2.5 Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce 8600 512 MB NVIDIA card).
I reinstalled the complete FCP suite and it still crashes. FCP suite works fine on my MacPro.
