Using Only MCS-Spectrum With Color?

The Apple Color manual says:
To use compatible JLCooper MCS Control Surfaces with Color, you need the following:
MCS-3000, MCS-3400, or MCS-3800 with an MCS-Spectrum
I'm looking at getting the MCS-Spectrum, but not the control panels. Does anyone know if this will work? Or do I need a navigation panel?
Thanks,
-Russ

In the spirit of being independent, I just found this on JLCooper's website:
Apple Final Cut Studio 2 (Color) Must be combined with MCS-3000 with Ethernet Option call for more details!
So I'm going to contact them "for more details!"
Sorry to bother everyone with the previous post.

So just FYI for anyone who might be interested:
The MCS-Spectrum requires an navigation panel. According to JLCooper, it can't be used alone.
