 | How to export single frames from Color?
by Alexandra Wesche on Aug 25, 2011 at 9:59:30 am |
Hey all,
I'd like to send DPX files of single frames of several shots to film recording, without rendering the whole project.
Is that possible? I haven't found a way...
Thanks.

Is the COLOR project one continuous file? You should have the option of rendering individual "clips"/scenes... but then there is always doing it the brute force method of pulling out the sequential files in Finder.... yeesh. You see, this is where utilities and applications like SHAKE earn their way.

It's not. I've got about 100 different clips on the timeline and I wanted to export 1 frame of each scene...
There's the still store of course, but that doesn't seem to have a physical folder on the Mac.
The problem is, I don't have the time to render the whole project as DPX to take single images for filmout with the Finder, because I need to render ProRes Quicktimes for the cutter first...
How would Shake help me with the Color project?

there is a very simple way to export frames from the timeline in color if you are using 2 monitors. on the monitor that displays your scopes and a 1/4 size viewer just double click on the viewer window. the picture will expand to fill the screen. now go to export jpeg in the pull down menu and whatever frame you are parked on will be exported to your desktop as a full size still. if you don't double click on the picture first the exported still will only be about 640 x 480 in size. i have used this many times to send frames off to clients for comment and approval. you can even create a simple storyboard after you've exported the frames .

[kim krause] " now go to export jpeg"
Yes, but he wants to export dpx files. I suppose one could do a conversion, but not the same.
Too bad, this is the way Resolve does it natively.

Yeah there doesn't seem to be a way without rendering everythings...
Thanks anyway for the JPG hint! That might be handy for other stuff in the future..

why would you want a single dpx frame? if its just for client approval then a jpeg is more than sufficient. what can you actually do with 1 frame.....surely you would have to send them a whole sequence of frames if it was for anything important....
