Has anyone run across a good discussion on the digital signal options for our Panny TH plasmas?
I wish I had the confidence to put this to rest based on every other panel we've had this discussion for..

HDMI seems like the best option as:
1. Its native, and therefore has minimal signal processing.
2. Its free

HD/ SDI
1. Could have a higher data bandwidth than HDMI,
2. but it could also be bottlenecking at the card, or even degraded based on an 8 bit downconversion.

Dual link HD SDI
1. Guessing these are only 8 bit panels, so little visual gain to see?

HD-SDI cards cost more than the plasma screen itself, or about the same price. That's why I don't bother with them. We currently run Component to all our screens.

They are 8bit screens.

The other issue is whether the output is running under ColorSync or not. Could be a lot of other issues besides gamma. HDMI would be coming out of the GPU instead of a proper 601/709 Video I/O card.

Kona LHi has HDMI out. I believe BMD has a card or two with HDMI as well.

Don't honestly know, you'd have to ask AJA. The breakout box for the LHi features HDMI I/O.

We use the AJA HD/SDI to HDMI converter (AJA Hi5) from our Kona3 card and it is fantastic. And its only about $490.00. Way less expensive than an HD/SDI card for the Panny Plasma.

I run HD-SDI from the kona to a blackmagic HDlink Pro. That outputs HDMI and de-embeds the audio. Works great!

I too have had great results with the SDI -> HDMI route. I run SDI to my monitor and then from the monitor to a BlackMagic SDI to HDMI mini converter, then HDMI to the plasma. The mini converter also pulls the audio off the SDI and I run this to an amp and speakers that are better situated for client viewing. The other advantage is that the SDI output from my monitor switches to the input I have selected, so whatever I have on my grading monitor is also on the plasma.

Make that another vote for the HD-SDI to HDMI route. The AJA box is great. BTW they also come in handy for HDMI cameras like DSLRs connecting to pro monitors in the field
