Problem linking shots with original footage in Color 1.0.4
by Bernardo Ayson on Nov 4, 2009 at 9:13:07 pm

I imported a finished project from FCP with around 50 cuts from a single original footage. The thing is a lot of the cuts in Color 1.0.4 would link to different parts of the footage (not the parts I had in FCP). What's wrong? What can I do?

Multi-clips taken from a single one-hour footage. Only one sequence. No nested.

Version 1.0.4 has problems with multi-clips (BTW, speed changes too). Time to upgrade or bake the sequence!

Actually you don't have to bake the sequences.

Just media manage the sequence with the following settings:

Media: use existing
Delete unused unticked
Base media on existing file names
Project: Duplicate selected sequence ticked
Include noactive multiclip angles UNTICKED

Then send the new sequence to color.

Hope this helps.

You know, I can't understand how to go about this. I opened the original project in FCP, the only things I see unticked/ticked are in the master clip column. So, do I delete all the clips that are unticked? What do you mean by base media on existing file names? The file names of all clips have remained unchanged since I started the project. What are noactive multiclip angles UNTICKED? I'm sorry about all these questions I have only began to use FCP suite entensively. Thank you.

Bernado,

You need to use the Media Manger tool. Its in the file menu. You'll see that my notes follow the options in it.

To properly run the media manager you need to:

1. Highlight the sequence you in the browser 1st.
2. Go to file menu and select Media Manager.

Good luck

Bernardo,

I have just had this same problem with a multiclip sequence

I fixed it using Marcus' suggestion

In the browser right click on the sequence and go down to media manager which I believe is the 4th one down the list click on it and wait for it to build a list of used media and the media manager opens

and this is how it should look

click OK when done

It will bring up a window with a place to save your new project
name and save

I hope this helps

Yup. I did all these steps. Again. Exported the "new" sequence to Color and got the same clips that did not match the FCP sequence.

Bernardo,

Did you use send to color or did you export it using compressor or as a quicktime movie

Have you tried creating a new sequence and copying say 20 minutes from your media managed sequence into it and then send that to color

David, I sent the sequence from FCP. The sequence is only 2 and a half minutes long consisting of about 50 clips. Before sending it to Color 1.0.4, I media manage the sequence according to the list above. But when I get it in Color 1.0.4, like half of the clips don't link to the exact clips assigned in FCP. Actually, they link to the beginning of the master footage I cut the main clips from. I have no problem with importing the whole QuickTime movie generated from the sequence but this does not help me with what I want to do which is to color grade most if not all the clips to achieve something more atmospheric than the flat look that the sequence has right now.
