Grading on a 17" vs 24"
by Jay Moffat on Nov 3, 2009 at 4:31:29 pm

In the continuing saga of looking at the options of building my own suite vs going out and working at a facility (argh!), there is of course a budget to consider. Everything I buy I want it to be an 'investment' which can be built on, rather than something to be replaced...

With that in mind, via a Kona 3, and decent storage, the monitor: 17" FSI or 24" FSI?

Is it just a matter of size, or are we talking different technical characteristics which might compromise achieving the best possible final product within my set-up?

Someone said to me recently that a 17" will not produce a full HD image, not sure how that is, pixels are pixels..but I put it to you in case I'm incorrect.

Thanks

J

In the case of FSI, they're both equal in terms of picture quality. The 17" is a 720p native monitor BUT it also has Pixel Mapping so you can see a 1080 and even a 2k image pixel for pixel when you need to.

Go to the section on Pixel Mapping to see how this works.
