Red locked timeline in color
by Vincent Slangen on Oct 31, 2009 at 9:13:35 pm

Hi,

I've find a problem I can't solve. When I send a timeline from FCP to color the timeline is locked. Now I can unlock it but the timeline stays red and has a red cross in the center. Also there is no preview in the scopes/preview monitor.

I've tried to export it to XML and then import it to Color with the same result.

Can anyone tell me whats going on.

Thanks
Vincent

That means your media has become unlinked and needs to be reconnected.

Can you give some details- what version of FCP/Color. What method did you use to edit in FCP- i.e. is this a native-wrapped Log and Transfer or a medium proxies edit?

Noah

My Final cut pro version is 6.06 and my color version is 1.04. They both came in final cut studio 3.

I discovered that it only happens with some footage or with surtain settings in FCP. I just cant discover when or wich settings.

Currently I'm trying to " color" a clip that is captured with my sony cam. The other one is a clip wich I ripped from a dvd. Both are just files to practice with. The clip from my sony cam seems to work fine but the ripped clip (both same timeline settings) stays red.

I'm a real newbie in final cut editing so please have patience when I do not complete understand your language. I'm just trying to learn.

Thanks

Final Cut Studio 3 should be FCP 7 and Color 1.5. Anyways- Color is nothing like FCP in terms of format compatibility. If you want to work with footage in Color, first send it files that it can handle. For example uncompressed and ProRes HQ are two formats Color works well with. I don't know what format you ripped your DVD too but I'd guess it's neither of those two. Convert and export to ProRes in FCP, then send to Color and you'll see much less problems.

Noah,

You're right, It was FCS 2. But anyway, you've been very helpfull. I changed the format of the movie to DV pal and that worked.

Thanks for your help

Its is always recommended to keep the Final Cut Studio suite up to date bcos that increases the stability and synchronization of the software to the updated hardware.......So dont forget to run the software updates
