Been searching the forum regarding render speed

And are a bit confused about what affects the renderspeed. The processor or the graphics card. Did some rendering out from color yesteday nothing advanced just some adustment of blacklevels and higlights which color does way better than the 3 way color corrector in Final Cut Pro looked at the activity monitor and could see Color only used one processor. Is the rendering done through the processors or through my graphics card.
