Send To FCP Relinks to Original Media not Newly Created Rendered Media
by Jack Holiday on Oct 13, 2009 at 1:53:48 pm

Hello All,

When I send my final graded sequence after it has been rendered in color back to FCP it just reconnects to the original media and is not color corrected. I have graded my sequence then rendered in color. All the clips are green. I then save the color project after it has been rendered before I send to FCP. I've gotten around this in the past by doing the render over in color and then sending again to FCP but obviously that is not an efficient work flow and for this sequence it keeps happening. The sequence is only about 8 minutes (one act of a show). I've read several posts with people who have the same problems but none of the solutions have worked ie saving before sending back to fcp. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am running Color 1.0.4 and FCP 6 on a 2.8ghz intel core duo. Another weird thing that happens is that when I send to fcp it warns that not all the clips are rendered which they all indeed are and have the green line.

Thanks in advance,
Jack

Jack try this.
Have the rendered project open in Color.
Select the Setup Room User Preferences tab.
Select the Project Render Directory Button.
Navigate to the directory or where the Color Rendered files are located.
Select Choose.
Now Save the project. After the Save is complete do a Send To FCP.
The files in FCP should now be linked to the Color rendered files.

Hope this helps.

Hey Bob,

The render directory was set correctly, I reset it and saved just to be sure but no dice. I did notice in this sequence that there is one piece of media offline, an old graphic that I don't have to worry about color correcting.

Is it possible that this clip is causing the problem?

If so is there any way in color to get rid of this one offline clip in color or I do I have to reimport the sequence from FCP and regrade the whole thing?

Thanks,
Jack

You have a Nest, a filter or some other thing applied to one or more of the original clips which is affecting the entire round trip.

I had a project last week that had the Flop filter applied to three clips. None of the clips from Color re-linked to the graded media.

I had to remove the Flop filter, re-send to Color, apply the grades and then re-send back to FCP.

I don'tt hink thats the problem but you could try it.
Save and archive the project first.

Unlock the track and select the clip and delete it. Re-lock the track.

You might have a corrupted project and you may be forced to create a new project and re-render.
Before I'd render the entire project again, I would do a test and only render a couple of clips. Then do a Send To FCP and see if those clips are graded. Before rendering the entire project.

Duplicate the original sequence in FCP and Re-name the sequence.
Then send the newly named sequence to Color.
Now import the original color project color corrections.
Select File>Import Color Corrections
Navigate to the original Color project and select.

Original project grades will populate the timeline of new project.
Then try a test render.

Hope this helps.

I exported a new sequence from FCP and imported the grades. Importing the grades worked fine but when I sent back to FCP from color same problem just relinking to the original media. I guess I will try to remove all the flops although other sequences I have done with flops have worked fine. If anybody has any other ideas please let me know..this is driving me to insanity.

Hey,

I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who helped me out by replying to my post. I was finally able to solve the problem. There was a photoshop file (psd) that I had left in the sequence. When I removed it, the sequence was able to round trip back to fcp with no problems. Thanks again for the help and I guess it can be said that color does not like still files.
