Color to FCP - wrong rendered clip linked
by Christopher Tay on Oct 10, 2009 at 3:45:22 am

Hi,

I'm running Color 1.0.4 and FCP 6.0.6 and I'm encountering a strange issue.

First pass FCP to Color and back to FCP is fine...the Color rendered clips link correct back in FCP.

Go back to Color, make a change to one shot, say change the guy's shirt from blue to red and then re-rendered and send back to FCP. In FCP, the shirt remains blue color.

Check the render folder, I see two clips, the new rendered clip (red shirt) and the copy render (blue shirt). When I import the new rendered clip (red shirt) into FCP, it shows up as blue. If I try to reconnect the clip from the timeline, when I navigate to the folder containing the rendered clips, I see both shots as blue shirt.

And when I go back to the Finder and locate that folder, the new rendered clip (red shirt) now becomes greenish.

Anyone encountered this weird issue ?

The clips I'm using are PAL 720 x 576 and I've tried both IMX and Prores422 codec and got the same results. I'm rendering out using Prores422 codec in Color.

Any advise ?

When I make changes like this, I don't (re)send to FCP again. I just render and the file gets overwritten by the new one. Once in FCP, go to the new shot in the Original (from Color) sequence, control click and select Reconnect media. The shot will go offline for a second and then relink to the revised render from Color.

Hope that helps.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your suggestion.

However when I do the Reconnect Media, it opens up the dialog box to ask me to locate the media to reconnect. I tried control-click and it does the same thing.

I can't find a way to make the clip reconnect the way you've described.

Hi Robert,

Forgot to mention that I am running Color 1.0.4 and FCP 6.0.6.

There seems to a bug in this FCP version coz if I were to quit FCP and re-open the project again, it will then relink to the new rendered clip.

But if I choose the reconnect manually, when I tell it to locate the clip, it will find the clip but it contains the grade from the previous render. If I check the clip in the Finder, it shows the new rendered look.

Somehow FCP seems to get confused between the newly rendered clip and the previous one, which goes renamed as xxx.mov Copy 1.
