Some DPX files not linking in Color
by Tom Banks on Sep 3, 2009 at 2:15:16 am

This is my first time working in Color, I previously have been using Lustre and am looking forward to the changeover.

I am working with an EDL off of Avid Media Composer and 2K DPX files from a spirit. The files are in sub folders based on their lab reels.

I went through the process of loading the EDL then selecting the source files. Everything seemed to link up fine except for one lab roll (one folder of DPX files). Because I'm not an expert, I'm at a bit of a loss as to how to handle this problem. I'm assuming that there was a possible error in the scanning and that the metadata is incorrect for that labroll, there for causing the miscommunication in the linking to the EDL. If this is the case, would anyone know how to determine the discrepancy and change the metadata? Or if not, has anyone experienced this before?

This seems like an easy fix, but because I am not used to working with EDLs and raw files, the whole linking concept is a bit foreign to me.

Thanks everybody!

COLOR has some priorities looking at the dpx files in order to determine where to situate them with respect to the EDL.
Your first step is to determine what the difference is between the dpx directory/header info that works vs. the ones that doesn't... then fix the ones that don't so that they obey the rules.

How do I look at the directory/header info? Is that simply the file name and where it is located?

First I had renamed the files so they were named project.000012345.dpx because I had read that the DPX files needed to be 9 digits. When this one folder didn't work, I replaced it with the original 12345.dpx files. Now in COLOR the clips appear in the browser but still appears missing in the clip bin. I cannot seem to manually insert the dpx sequence into the clip browser either.
