When I "downgraded" from the 8800 the ATI 2600 in my Mac Pro Octo 3.2 I saw immediate improvements on overall performance in Color and faster renders. In the new Mac Pro Octo 2.93 we have the ATI 4870 card and it just smokes Color.
ATI has always worked better with Color for whatever reason, no matter how fast the nVidia card is for other things.
