Questions for client comfort
by Sébastien Renault on Jul 7, 2009 at 12:41:01 pm

Hello,

My Colorist is working on a SD project using Color (he usually uses combustion)... The thing is : He can't have a real time playback as soon as he puts more than 2 secondaries on a footage...

Is there a way to have a realtime playback (even dropping frames in preview or whatever), just for his client's comfort ?

+
Is there a solution to run DV PAL anamorph in 16/9 in the preview window ?

Thanks a lot for your answers.

Regards.

Hardware configuration :
Mac Pro
2 x Quad 2GHz
4 Go ram
2 graphic cards

DV PAL anamorph in the preview window? Oh, so you're not even running this out to a calibrated monitor.

This is a paying client?

BTW, the answer is no.

The other answer is to choose Maintain Frame Rate in the User Preferences. It will skip frames to try to keep the fps.

Client comfort is measured in how sumptuous the leather couch is and whether or not the latte machine was made in Italy or not.

Client confidence, however, is not so easy.

Ahah, "comfort"... Sorry for my english... I've done my best to offer them a cool couch ;)

I justed wanted the two directors to be able to look a the "end" version of the project. Since this is my computer, I also wanted to learn stuffs about Color. (I'm not a colorist at all but I like to know what's going on)

I'm actually using a 4/3 CRT monitor, plugged in my second graphic card.

Is there really NO solution for a playback in 16/9 using DV pal ?

Thx by the way for the "Maintain frame rate", this worked out !

As far as displaying anamorphic on a 4x3 monitor, there are reasons you might not want to do that anyway in a grade environment (mostly to do with simultaneous dynamic contrast), but there are two options, neither of which has anything to do with COLOR:

1. Do the letterbox with a Kona card
2. Maybe your 4x3 monitor has an "enhanced widescreen" setting that collapses the scan -- but not many have this as an option.

Thx a lot Joseph for your time and answers.

Guess I'll just have to wait until I get a proper 16/9 monitor :)

Regards.
