Quad-Core vs. 8 core

I'm hopefully going to buy a new Mac Pro soon, and I wanted to know from Color users who've used the application on both versions of the Mac Pro if they had noticed a profound difference in performance using the Quad Core vs. the 8 core Mac Pros.
I'm sure there's a difference as the 8 core has close to twice the processor power and twice the RAM.
But is it enough to justify the addition $800- on a tight budget? How does the Quad-Core do with complex rendering tasks?
I'm especially curious about dealing with HD footage, both compressed and uncompressed. Also any of the other applications on FC Studio, I'm curious to know about any performance differences there...

Noah,
I'm curious to know, have you heard anything about how the new nvidia GTX 285 graphics card works for color? More to that... I see your writing a book about the Red One, which is the camera were using, what kind of results are you getting with the new 8 cores vs the gigantic files sizes associated with importing Red footage?
Do you use Red Alert or FCP6's log and transfer function? Is there still hours of waiting for the renders to finish?
