JVC DT-V24L1U vs DT-V20L1DU
by Dan Pinka on Jun 12, 2009 at 1:41:48 pm

The DT-V20L1DU has HS-SDI inputs but only has a 1680 x 945 HD resolution. Price is $2000 but has a $400 rebate.

The DT-V24L1U is only component or HDMI to DVI-D but has a full 1920x1080 resolution. Price is $2000.

I will be running my video out an AJA Kona LHi from Final Cut. Is it better to have the HD-SDI connection with a little less resolution? Or will I be able to use HDMI out of the LHi to get a comparable signal to the DVI-D port on the DT-V24L1U and see all my pixels. Most projects are shot on XDCam 1080p with some HDV footage mixed in.

I have considered the Pany plasma route. I fear the pro model at 42" would be like sitting in the front row at the movie theater for eight hours in our little edit suite.

Thanks for any advice you can provide.

Dan

Can't find anything on the site to find out the true specs on the panel. It says 10bit processing but no information about the panel itself.

Personally I do not trust anything from JVC, nor do I know anyone who is using JVC panels for color grading. If you can get a full money back guarantee from wherever you order it, then you're good to order it and try it out. Or try to get a demo of the monitor.

If you're trying to stay in the $2,000 price range, look at the FSI 1760W. It's $2,495 with dual SDI inputs (HD/SD auto-switch) and DVI along with full analog and audio connectivity. We have one of these in our Rialto edit suite and two of their 2450W's in our other suites. Best monitors I've seen for the price point.

Best part is a full 30 day money back guarantee. If you don't like it, send it back. http://www.shopfsi.com
