Hey Guys,

I've got the following prob:

I did the cut of offline Red Footage in FCP, exported an XML to Crimson,
did the indermediate process, opend the native r3d files in Redcine, opend the Crimson XML, did my resized an renderd out some dpx Sequences.

Then I exported the same Sequence as edl from FCP for reimporting in Color.

Color opens the edl just fine, the problem ist, that all the dpx sequences are just placeholders (redlined box). I tried to reconnect in Color,... won't work.

So I tried to reconnect the dpx sequences with the gluetools demo in fcp, works just fine! Got a moving picture in fcp. So I sent this sequenz to Color. On that way I just got the first frame of the dpx sequence in color for the whole lenght of the shot....

Please help ...

Greetz from Germany, Phil

I expect you'll need several responses to get a complete solution for this problem.
#1 COLOR/FCP have a well-defined workflow that doesn't involve dpx. A White Paper exists on the RED site that is a good read.

Why would you NOT want to work with the R3D files in COLOR, with the advantage that you have access to the metadata and RAW REDCODE media (4K) in the Primary In room -- RED tab?

Hey jPo,

well people told me to use dpx sequences in exrem low light
situations. The whole feature is a low light movie ! So I thought
it would be better zu use dpx sequences ! Also I heard that the
debayering in color is not as good as in redcine ... ?

Try out reconform fcp xml to mov files with clipfinder

Send color it will read your r3d data

Check scaling and fix if necessary

Render out size needed from r3d in codec or dpx even

Hey Ben,

thanks for the answer.

Won't I have a loss of quality when I
edit the r3d Data directly in Color ?
I've heard so any concerns abour a bad
quality debayering in color ?

What about extrem low light situations ?

I#ve read the fcp whitepaper, but they don't
talk about debayering in Color/FCP !

Maybe you should check out this thread from a couple of weeks ago and the guy who wrote the debayering algorithms for both applications.
