I sent this post in an email via the support page:
Hi,
I just recently purchased Final Cut Studio 3 and am a little new to third party plugins. My particular question is I am interested in purchasing FxFactory Pro and Mototype 1.2. If my free trial runs out on FxFactoryPro but already paid for Mototype 1.2, will Mototype still work for me? Or is FxFactoryPro mandatory to be able to buy and permanently use others? It's just I need to save up for FxFactoryPro but Mototype is something that's within my budget now.

The quick answer is:
You do not have to purchase FxFactory Pro to run Motype or any of the other FxPacks. All products can be purchased individually, and there are no dependencies.
It works like this:
FxFactory is a *free* plug-in development, management and distribution platform that runs all of our products. All products require FxFactory to be installed, but do not require you to purchase FxFactory Pro. For a full list of all products see this:

FxFactory Pro is a commercial product that consists of a set of 150 filters, transitions and generators for FCP, Motion and AE that we have developed with the FxFactory platform, and can be purchased. For more info on FxFactory Pro:
