I have dealt with this problem for years. While not everyone has a softened output many of us do and it is a problem that has yet to be addressed in a meaningful way IMHO. The work around that I use is as follows. In Ultra I defocus the virtual set by a factor of 1 or sometimes 2. When I bring the resulting clip into my NLE I apply a sharpen filter to the clip. The amount of sharpness used varies with the type of shot i.e. wide, tight, etc. but I don't apply much. This brings the virtual set back to its original sharpness while adding sharpness to the degrade input clip. The resulting clip looks close to normal.
One solution would be for Serious to add the ability to sharpen the input clip while within Ultra.
