I am new to video production and have just purchased Adobe Production Suite Premium. I would like to create a virtual set for Adobe Ultra like those demonstrated at www.realitysets.com where an actor can appear to be in front of certain set elements but also appear behind other set elements. .They describe it this way:
"The biggest change you will find in Volume III is the addition of the included alpha channels. Our production staff has painstakingly "painted out" key elements from numerous sets in the Volume III library. Then these elements were used to create mattes that overlay the source footage and the keyed in talent."

Ultra has a few sets with a forground as you described. Open your Skyline studio virtual set and load the one called,Skyline cam 1c with forground. Now select view, Displayed inputs, Pre-defined. Now you can see the different layers of this set. You should be able to replace these with the alpha channel pics from reality sets.com and orient them as you please.

Thank you for your reply. I will look. My goal is to shoot my own virtual set footage then create the alpha channels and mattes that are used in the examples you and I mention. Will I be able to learn this from the Ultra example?

I experimented with this last night and Ultra wont let us replace the virtual set backgrounds so try this. Drag your background to the background square and your forground into the overlay square. Your talent will show up between them when put in the input square. Danny

The following page from the Adobe site details making a new virtual set using 3D software applications. With After Effects or Photoshop CS3 extended you should be able to do this with video footage as well.
