Hi gang,
I've searched for a solution to this and posted this on the Adobe site, but haven't gotten repsonse there either.
I've been using Ultra CS3 for a while and just recently started getting this error when trying to open the application:
"Adobe Ultra has experienced an unrecoverable error of unknown origin and must close." The prompt states that this is likely related to system hardware or attached video input.
The only thing I've changed was that I upgraded to a Digi 003 Rack and Pro Tools 7.4. But all my other apps work fine (AE CS3, PP CS3, Vegas 8, etc).
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling Ultra CS3, but that didn't help.

I have the same problem upon first attempted execution of Ultra. I cannot run the program at all. Any easy way to determine what hardware (if indeed it is a hardware problem) is causing this?

IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers - update with your manufactures drivers and watch out for window update (they will try to update these drives went new drivers are available - and these might not work as well - so if this problem comes up again just reinstall the newest manufactures drivers or look up how to hide those IDE ATA/ATAPI controller drivers in windows update) I hope this helps someone.

OK, well I had already installed the latest manufacturers drivers for all my hardware. This did not do it. But then a tech support guy from Adobe called me and we stepped through a bunch of debugging procedures (deactivating startup programs, turning stuff off and on, etc. etc.) Nothing worked and I still had the problem. But finally I rebooted once more and all of a sudden Ultra ran and worked! We have no idea what made it work. No change to the hardware and no apparent change to the software.
So I am now a happy camper and would be even more happy if I knew what caused the problem. But I am certainly not going to look a gift horse in the mouth. Ultra now works for me.

I had the same error and went through every possible troubleshooting fix. I finally found an answer for my situation and probably will fix the other frustrated people with this problem (this problem also causes other system resource issues, as well as, even more problems) - windows update will often update your IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers with ones that don't work as well for all systems (like mine) - I searched and found my newest drivers (ex. nforce 680i SLI from nVidia website - you find out what type you need from device manager or any other method) follow instructions - my system works better than it has in a while - no more unexpected errors - I usually don't post - but this problem was driving me crazy and I didn't find any working posts - I hope this helps someone.
