Black clothing flicker?1?!?!
by Ruth Moore on Feb 24, 2008 at 4:48:36 am

i've been using Ultra for awhile now, and i've looked closely at other competitor's projects. Everyone seems to have issues with black clothing, it's like it's always "dancing" - it's more than just a flicker. For example:

Look at the bottom of his pants - it's like they can't find the color they're actually supposed to be.

Suggestions?

I too have a huge problem with flicker and some with dark colors some light colors. Even though I shoot the green screen on it's own (no subject) I still don't get a clean key.
I have tested lighting the screen different ways as well as adjusting my camera but nothing seems to work. I use a cloth green screen. As far as lighting the screen I tried using 1000 watts on either side (halogen shop lights) that seemed too bright and caused hot spots. I tried using less light yesterday (3 120watt spots) and that did not work either.
The flicker is driving me nutts. I have tried several keying methods. Any thoughts?

I'm sorry to hear about your pain, but I'm glad I'm not the only one. I've looked on other people's green-screened online videos and I have yet to see one that doesn't have this issue. I just can't believe people settle for that quality and don't talk about it more. I haven't seen any solutions online anywhere.

I hear ya, I am really looking to get a crisp key.
I have really worked on adjusting my lighting and I beleive eventually I will get it right. I try shooting the greenscreen without subject 1st and key the screen alone.
It works at times but everything is based on how my screen is lighted. I currently use a cloth screen, I may try and use a painted wallboard and see if my key works better. I will let you know if I get anything to work. You do the same.
