OL stalling when first plugging in camera
by Chaddix Malchow on Aug 7, 2009 at 4:33:50 pm

I'm using a GL2 via firewire to the computer. I open OL and turn the camera on and it says it has the signal; i can see it for about 10 seconds before it stalls and the monitor on OL stalls and goes black or the frame freezes and gets distorted. any ideas?
thanks much

I bet your using CS4 OL right? CS3 which is really Serious Magics creation works great with my GL1 and Sony HDV cameras. Adobe has ruined both Serious magics Ultra, (discontinued) and OL.
Look hard enough and you can find CS3 OL online. It works great.

Have you got at least 2G of ram as Adobe recommends and is your graphics capable of pixelshader 2.0 at least? I was having several different symptoms trying to run CS4 on my older HPzv5000 laptop. Since I've upgraded, CS4 runs perfectly. I've tried several cameras, myCanon XH A1 and my JVC HD100 both are recognized and operate as expected. The ability to create a shot list and embed metadata in the clips makes it well worth running CS4. As Mark Mapes said, in rewriting OL to make it MAC compatible, they changed the video processing to use pixelshader so the graphics has to be capable. If it isn't anything can happen. My HP would crash when the camera was turned on or I would have negative and green video if it didn't crash.
