On Location Cs4 problem with DSR 570

Hi
Cam across a strange problem today, whilst recording through OL CS4 from a DSR570 camcorder / Firewire, the following problems were noticed.
If i pressed record on the camera and on location, it produced a perfect recording, if I didnt press record on the camera, the file looks almost sped up, with coppy audio. Akin to playing DV on a DVCAM machine, where you seem to be missing about every 3rd frame.
This only happened when I didnt simultaneously record on the Camera, it deosnt happen with a JVC HD200 or a JVC DV5000.
Any offers? I can just record onto tape at the same time I guess, but it seems very odd.

One of the main features with OL is direct to disc recording, without tape. Try recording this way and see what happens. It never fails with me, DV or HDV. I'm also not wearing out my tape head in the camera. I only use tape when I don't have a computer right there. you can also set OL to start and stop recording based on motion detection and not have to manually start and stop the recording. Hope this helps, Danny

This isn't really addressing the point, there are times when shooting both to tape and HDD is invaluable, times when just HDD is great and times when tape is fine. That's a choice decided by the cameraman depending on the client and the job needed.
I tend to have a tape backup so it can go into archive without messing about with loads of tape or disk backups, as you will access fottage that you never thought you would need again for a client from 5 years ago!
For the sake of a few quid on a tape I would rather have it locked away for years to come in a nice handy format. I wish I could do this on XDCAM but the discs are a bit more expensive and a few times I have hired the HPX5000 its a real bummer to have to backup all the footage of the P2 after every days shooting. I think people sometimes tend to forget how useful tape is. I have Beta SP, DigiBeta and UMatic all easily accesibale from 15 years ago and more without and data management issues (which are becoming more of an overhead).
I have used on location since it's DV rack days but have never had a problem recording off a DSR570 camera, I am wondering what has changed.
The issue I have as I stated in my original post is that the DSR570 will NOT record PAL DVCAM without the tape recording, whilst several other cameras are fine. What it does record is a strange speeded up version of DV.
Whilst it's not a problem running a tape at the same time, I would like to know what causes the problem so it does not crop up a different way. My firestore works just fine on the DSR, with or without tape.

Hi David,
We do not have a DSR 570 in our collection of cameras--I'm checking with the Premiere team to see if they do. If they don't, can I get a sample clip recorded in each scenario so we can investigate what's different?
