OnLocation CS3 isn't recognizing my HV30 in HD

The title basically explains my problem. If I switch my camcorder to SD mode then it shows up instantly. Once it is in HD mode it cannot be detected by OnLocation (or my PC for that matter). Does anyone here have any ideas as to how I can get OL to recognize my HV30 in HD mode? I'm running Windows XP Home 32bit.

I have run into this before. If memory serves the HV30 does not put its HD signal out on the firewire connector. You could use HDMI to connect to your PC by adding an HDMI card into one of your spare motherboard slots, but OnLocation would not work with it - it only accepts firewire. Sorry.

Hmmm. Memory may not have served so well. I just checked the Canon site and it appears that the HV30 does output HDV on the firewire connector. But I know I ran into this exact symptom last year when working with a friend who had just bought his cam. I will dig some more and try to rediscover how that one got fixed. Unluckily, I also saw on the Canon site that some owners had to hire a tech to get their PC connection functional.

Hi Trevan,
Are you by chance running the trial version of OnLocation? If so, that would explain the fact that it's not showing HDV as the MPEG decoder is disabled in the trial.

Thank you for all the posts to my humble problem! It turns out that after reinstalling Windows just recently OnLocation can now detect my HV30 in HD!! I'm not sure what the problem was but it has gone away for now. Also, I'm running the full retail version of OnLocation so that hopefully isn't the problem.
