my 60gb ipod was working fine the other day. now it wont turn on or charge. it will play if its hooked up to my car charger and it will say its charging but once i disconnect it it goes blank again. if i hook it up to a computer or wall charger it says " please wait, very low battery" and it wont change not matter how long its plugged in. i tunes wont recognize it either, restart does nothing but go back to the very low battery text.

Take it into a local Apple Store and have them look at it. It sounds like your battery is gone. They may be able to replace it for you.
If you don't have a local Apple Store and if it is out of warranty, I'd buy a new one as the cost of repair, shipping, etc., is likely to be as much as buying a new one.
