ipod Virus?

Hello, I have had my apple ipod for a year now and i haven't seen any problems until recently. I was restarting my ipod because it froze and when it came back on, It showed a picture of an ipod with X's on its screen and a frown. I just left it to charge and in a week, it started working again. A few days later, the same thing happened, and again i left it to charge. Unfortunatly, this time, it didn't start working again. It is still this way. I asked my friend if he knew what was going on with my ipod and he told me it has a virus. What should i do and is there really a virus for the ipod? Thanks in advance.
p.s. I never dropped the ipod
