iTunes Questions
by stan welks on Dec 11, 2008 at 10:24:29 pm

1. Does anyone have any idea what the approval percentage rate from itunes is when accepting podcasts?

2. How many episodes would you recommend having available before submitting to iTunes?

3. Any idea how long it takes to find out if iTunes approves your request?

Thanks.

From what I understand, iTunes approves pretty much anything that is in the right format. They do not make artistic evaluations and leave that up to the market to decide what is good and what is bad. All they care about is that the RSS is done correctly and that the file plays when called.

You can submit with the first episode, you do not need a pile to begin with.

Approvals used to be a day or two long ago but today it seems to take a week or so. There are a lot of people getting in line and the iTunes approval staff is not huge.

Best regards,

To what Ron said, to be thorough I would add (from Apple's Podcast Technical Specifications Page) :

• Technical problems, usually the lack of episodes or the inability to download or play episodes. These problems can almost always be avoided by testing your feed using Subscribe to Podcast in the Advanced menu prior to submission.

• Requirement of a login or password to access the feed or any of the episodes.

• Strong prevalence of sexual content.

• Use of explicit language in the title or description of the podcast.

• Use of explicit language in the podcast when the tag is not set to "yes".

• Apparent misuse of copyrighted material or other violation of third party rights.

• Inclusion of offensive material, such as racist content or child pornography.

• Misrepresentational use of Apple copyright, including "iPod" and "iTunes."

There you go.
