Allowing users to subscribe to my videos?
by Rick Pearl on Dec 4, 2008 at 7:11:08 am

I want to get video hosting with http://www.libsyn.com/index.php?&mode=logout&message=

to upload video encoded as h.264 that I want to embed on a WordPress blog in a Flash Player so people can watch the video directly on the page. I would also like to allow users to subscribe to my videos through iTunes.

1. What do I need to do to make the connection between my videos hosted with Libsyn and people who want to subscribe to them through itunes? What steps am I missing?

Thanks!

Hi Rick.

Libsyn can create an RSS feed that contains all of your episodes that you've posted. Or, you can create your own. There are many programs that will help you create an iTunes compatible feed.

Once you have your feed worked out, you'll need to submit it to the iTunes directory since that feed is what people will be subscribing to. Just go to the iTunes store, click on Podcasts and you'll see a "Submit a Podcast" button right in the middle of the page. Just follow the instructions you'll be given.

If you don't need or want to have your show listed in the iTunes directory, people can still subscribe to your feed using iTunes--but it's not automatic. Just open iTunes, and go to Advanced>Subscribe to podcast. Just copy your feed address and paste it into the empty field iTunes will present you.

That's all there is to it!

Hi Jon,

1. Can Libsyn also create a RSS feed for users of the Microsoft Zune Marketplace? Is it the same feed as for iTunes, or does a new one have to be made for each location?

2. What exactly does it mean to make a "feed"

3. Is Rapid Weaver an example of a program that makes the feed instead of doing it through Libsyn? Is there any advantage to doing it with a separate program vs. Libsyn?

Thank you!!!!
