iTunes artwork image doesn't load

Well, I'm new to podcasting, and I've built a podcast feed for work, and it's working almost great. When I subscribe to it from within iTunes, the artwork image does not load. The code appears to be valid, but I can't figure it out.

Hmmm, it looks like the program you're using to create the feed (The Podcast RSS Buddy 3.0) is causing a lot of problems. You're feed isn't validating and that's most likely the reason why your podcast artwork isn't showing up.
If you can edit your feed so that it validates, then I'm sure everything will fall into place.

Jon, thanks for the quick response. I started out with RSS Buddy, but didn't like it. I switched to another program (can't remember the name off-hand), and imported the previous feed with one item, made some adjustments, then added another item. I also edited some of the XML too. I don't like the second program either, although it's better than the Buddy.
I guess the multiple itunes:image tags don't help. I'd rather start over from scratch, but I'm not sure what program would better suite my (and iTunes') needs, hence my other post.

Tim, i've actually been going through your xml and rewriting it so that it will validate, but still contain everything you were needing to pack in there. I'll email it to you when I'm done and you can compare the two. If you want to use the one I've rewritten, then it will be a good starting point for adding to with future episodes.
This whole xml thing can really be a pain....

Well, the artwork still isn't showing up in iTunes (we are not in the Store right now). It's working okay except for that; I'm just having a hard time figuring out the iTunes image thing.

Sorry, I thought you were already in the store. Once you're added to the directory your artwork will show up on your own page.
Otherwise, you have a video podcast so there won't be any album art. That's the other place it could not be showing up, but in that case you would need an audio file with the artwork encoded into it.
I'm just confused with what you're experiencing. Can you elaborate on what isn't working properly?

When you Subscribe to Podcast... in iTunes without going through the Store, it should still display the artwork when viewed in Cover Flow View. I just tried it with a couple of different COW podcasts on a computer that never had anything from the COW, and it pulled down the separate artwork for each. My image code is the same as those, so what could it be? The .rss extension couldn't be causing it could it? Or maybe I should chalk it up to the podcast gremlins and let it fly?

Ah, I see.
iTunes doesn't pull down the artwork from a video podcast for display in coverflow. What you're actually seeing is a still frame from the (I think) first episode downloaded. It just happens that COW podcasts have the logo up on screen at the right frame that iTunes pulls the still.
At least this is my theory. None of the other video podcasts that I subscribe to (even Apple's own Tips video podcast) show album art.
Unless you have a special preference set. I could be wrong.

Hey guys, I submitted a podcast/rss feed to iTunes. It is an MP3 audio feed. I cannot get my image file to appear for the actual subscription. I know I don't have individual artwork for the MP3's but I don't know what else to do to ge tmy image to appear. I have an href link in the "channel" section. The code I used is: Podcast Image ANY HELP? 8^)

Verifys properly through both Feed Burner abd Feed Validator. And the graphic is the right size. Hmmmmm . . . does it take a while to populate on iTunes?
Re: iTunes artwork image doesn't load by Jonathan Miller on Nov 7, 2007 at 5:14:35 pm
Most likely because your image is only 140x140.
Make it larger and iTunes will probably update.
Here's mine, and it displayes in the directory just fine (remember, this is Apple you're dealing with. Things have to look the way they want them to look...):

Cindy, I was just following up to see if your artwork was showing up yet. It's not (you probably know this...).
I tried to validate your feed and as it currently stands, it does not validate. I'm almost positive that is the reason that your image isn't showing up. Especially because the problem with your feed is related to the artwork section of your feed!
So, what you need to do is a simple edit and you should be good to go. Currently your feed lists your artwork as this:
This is not the proper way to list it. Change it to this:
and it should work right away after you ping (and iTunes updates your page).
I shure hope that solves it for you. Best of luck. I hope you're still monitoring this thread!

Hey Jonathan, thanks for the update. That line of text is the original line I had. I did notice a possible issue with the image itself on the dpi. It wasn't 72 dpi so I made sure it was. Uploaded it just now and pinged it. Still not updated. Maybe it will resolve. I will keep an eye on it and absolutely appreciate your help. This is boggling my mind. 8^)
