Mic Solution for Large Group?

Mic Solution for Large Group?
by limelite on Feb 6, 2007 at 6:19:00 pm

Does anyone here have experience working with recording larger groups for podcasting? I'm trying to indentify a simple (or the simpliest) solution to get decent sound of a large group (6-12 people) into the computer to record for a podcast. Are there any mics you could recommend that are good at picking up a 360 degree pattern? The best I've come up with so far is two condensor mics in the center of the room pointing opposite ways to pick up as much as is possible at an even level. It's been a challenge. I was just curious if anyone had a similar experience and had developed a solution they could recommend. Thanks!

Honestly, audio is not my specialty. However, there is an Audio forum here on The COW. MAybe you can ask your question there and get expert advice.

Omni-directional mics are part of the solution but there will be more to it than that. As Jon points out, the Audio Professionals forum at the CreativeCOW.net can assist you in isolating things that would best solve your needs in your particular situation.
