A question from someone who knows nothing about podcasting...
by Adrian on Oct 25, 2006 at 2:19:51 pm

I subscribe to a couple of podacasts from itunes, and a little while ago I missed a couple of episodes from each of them.

I went to the website of the people that make the podcasts in question and downloaded the missing episodes. Some came down as mp3s, others as mp4s, but when I opened them up in itunes, they didn't go into podcast list, just into the normal library.I tried dragging them into the podcast list but they wouldn't go, I tried changing their genre to Podcast in the file info, but that didn't work either.

So now I figure that there is something deeper going on with the files. So I'll ask. Is there any way to ge the files to appear with the rest of the podcasts?

Thanks in advance,

-AW

I'm no expert in iTunes (it can always seem a little funky i these respects) but you can try a few things.

1. Go to your list of episodes for theat podcast within your podcast library. See if the missing episodes are visible, yet grayed out. If they are, and there's a "get" button to their right, press it and see if the episodes download.

2. If that doesn't work, or they are not visible, you can try deleting the entire podcast from your library and re-subscribing to it. If the missing episodes are in their RSS feed, they will be available for download by pressing the "get" button.

3. Again, if the episode is available in the podcaster's RSS feed, you may be able to just go to their page in iTunes and click, "get episode" and see if it downloads and becomes part of the list in your library.

Hope you find a solution. Let me know if I didn't address the actual problem you're having!

Good luck!

Thanks for the quick response. Unfortunately the none of the options you suggested were available, which was why I just went and downloaded the old files from the people's site.

I think whatever it is, there is some id tag within the file that is not matching the tags in the other podcasts and that is the reason why they aren't showing up in the podcast section in iTunes. I just thought that there would be an easy fix for it.

If anybody knows how to get around this, I'd love to hear it, but otherwise I guess I'll just have to go through the iTunes Library to hear the old episodes.

Thanks again!
