[doyal gudgel] "How do you unwind a swirl?"
Head in the opposite direction of the swirl. ;-)

- or -

Keyframe the Amount parameter to be zero at some point in time.

Here are the only adjustments and none of them do an unswirl. Amount, 1.000 or -1.000 (direction). Scaling. Horizontal 1.0, Proportional
If selected disables or enables Vertical scaling. Maybe the preset selection has something to do with it. I am looking.

[doyal gudgel] "Here are the only adjustments and none of them do an unswirl."
Did you try what I suggested?

Did that not unswirl?

What do you think that "unswirl" should do? (i.e., What effect do you want it to have?)

I want it to turn and as it turns reduce the swirl effect, The first time I added a swirl It turned like a disc but I don't remember what I did to get the effect. Besides it was not quite correct. When it turns the swirl gets less and less until it is original picture. I thought this was the primary reason for a swirl.

Perhaps you use Pan/Crop to rotate the frame as you applied the swirl?

Yes, and that's what happens when you keyframe the Amount parameter to go from 1.0 to 0.0 as I suggested in my original reply. Did you try that?

With keyframes. Do you know how to set keyframes for an FX?

No, I looked for "Keyframes in help but it didn't help me whatever it said. Too bad I didn't get serious about Sony Vegas some years ago instead of messing with the hacked version. If I had just gone and bought a legal one I would not be trying to do my film and pictures now that I am going blind.

This is fun. If I look, what I want to do, they have already thought of it. Really amazing. This swirl is not important but for the fun of it I would appreciate how to unswirl it. Have a nice day.

OK, let me use an analogy that my good friend Douglas Spotted Eagle always uses: Keyframes are like appointments on your calendar; e.g., at 10:00 you need to pick up the dry cleaning, at 11:00 you need to pick up the kids, etc. They are points in time that something should occur.

You want to tell the Swirl FX that at 00:00:00;00 you want the Amount to be 1.0 (full swirl) and at 00:00:01;00 (one second later) you want the Amount to be 0.0 (no swirl).

You do this by setting keyframes on the little timeline at the bottom of the FX window. In the screen shot below, I'm using Movie Studio Platinum 12 so your Movie Studio may look different but it will behave the same. Since the first keyframe is always there, all you need to do is create a second one. Move the little timeline cursor out to the 1 or 2 second mark and change the value of Amount and a new keyframe will automatically be created at that point with the new value. Like this:

That will make the swirl... unswirl.

OK thanks for taking all that time to answer my question. Depending upon the setup of my window sometimes things are not visible and have to be located. That can take a lot of time. It finally works. I owe you one. I have posted a few seconds on youtube if you want to see what it is all about. It has some stuff google probably does not like so it may not stay there very long.

It helps to know what a Keyframe is. In film editing that would be a cut. Now I know.

Hope to see you
