Apologies in advance if this issue has already been raised.

I am a complete novice to Sony Vegas and am hoping that someone will be able to assist with this query.

I have taken numeros videos with a samsung D600 mobile phone as well as two Samsung Digital cameras and a panasonic SDr H80 video cam. i purchased the Vegas software in the hope that i could create a DVD with holiday videos from all of the cameras listed above.

When i got to the acrchitect page the folowing appeared
Warning- an error occured while opening one or more files. The proper stream could not be found in the media file. Although i could see the video there was no sound at all.
Could someone please let me know what i'm doing wrong?
Thanks

Are you trying to bypass Vegas and just place these files on a DVD with DVD Architect? I would try opening them in Vegas and then render an MPEG2 file for use in DVD Architect. Even then, Vegas may not open them either because they may use audio or video codecs that you don't have installed or Vegas doesn't support.

Hi John

Many thanks for your very prompt reply.

As far as im aware i didn't bypass vegas - i hit the button to go to architect.

I did notice that when i wanted to record directly to DVD that the disc played both sound and video in the DVd player connected to my TV but it didnt play at all on my pc

Sorry to sound like a complete idiot but can you tell me the best format to save these files in please (From how you've responded it seems like it should be MPEG2 ?).

I thought that by using this application it would just save everything as it was first recorded.

I intend to use my two digital cameras as well as my panasonic to record in future. Could you also let me know how i'm able to find out if my cameras and digi cam are compatible.

thanks

Mick

Was that the Make Movie button? So I assume you are using Vegas Movie Studio?
[mick thomas] "Sorry to sound like a complete idiot but can you tell me the best format to save these files in please (From how you've responded it seems like it should be MPEG2 ?)."
Here is what you do:
  1. Press the Make Movie button
  2. Choose Burn it to DVD or Blu-ray Disc
  3. Choose DVD with Menus
  4. Select the path to place the files and Movie Studio will use the correct settings.
  5. When the render is finished press the Send to DVD Architect Studio button.
At that point you should have a DVD compliant video file with audio all ready to go in DVD Architect Studio.

If the files import into Movie Studio correctly you are all set to go. It's only if there is video or audio missing do you need to look for codecs to install.

Thanks again for your time and patience John.

Tried doing the above and still have the same results- (can't play audio in architect- although it plays in vegas).

Also received an error message with reference to audio stream.

I'm wondering if there seems to be an issue with reference to windows media player and VLC as i tried to render seperately- please see results detailed below

Went through some other threads and rendered separately and what happend was that the video played in windows (without sound).

I then rendered the audio seperately and found that i could hear the audio (which played through VLC) but without any video.

Sorry for being a pain but this is becoming so frustrating.

Thanks

Mick

just wondering John if there is a way to render seperately (video then audio) in windows media player and link the files together?

Anoher update- it's definately an audio issue.

When i try to play in architect there is an error message about audio streaming. The button in the top left where it lists file has none under audio.

This is strange as i have definately seen the status bar completed under the video and audio functions when it was completed in Vegas before being transferred into architect.

What Vegas does is render a separate video and audio stream specifically for DVD Architect. This is why each file only has video or audio. That is to be expected. What DVD Architect does it combine these back into the VOB file that DVD's require. I don't know why DVD Architect won't accept the audio that is rendered from Vegas.

Do you have any codec-paks installed on your PC like "K-Lite"? Could it be that the Vegas AC3 encoder has been replaced with another AC3 encoder that DVD Architect can't use?

I haven't manually installed any type of codec- if i'm totally honest i don't even know what a codec is.

The only thing i remember at initial installation is that i was asked if i wanted to install a .dar file which i accepted .

When i look at files in architect i can see the video but absolutely no audio file.

I can clearly see that the rendering process seems to be actioned seperatley. First it renders the video file- then it renders the audio file. Architect then loads up. I can play the clip but no audio appears at all. I even just created a simple video file from my didgi cam (which is less than 2 years old) and still no audio. Yet this audio plays in vegas and on the software which came with the cam.

Is there anyway i can downlaod specific codec files (if this is the issue) in order to rectify this problem.

Thanks again for your responses- it is appeciated

Are they being placed in the same folder? For some reason, Sony allows you to put them in different folders. Make sure they are being placed in the same folder. Like this:

Hi John

Success!

What i did was go to Sony updates and downloaded the most recent architect file. Having done that i put together clips from all of my cameras and it all flows together -including audio!!

I only purchsed the software a week ago (and thought) i downloaded all the most recent files.

Spoke to someone from a different site who suggested i follow an update link.

Many thanks for your advice and the time you have taken to respond to my emails.

Hope you have a great Xmas and Happy New Year

Cheers

Mick
