Cant see text in video from overlay

I have inserted text overlay with no problem but now I have a problem. I inserted some text in the video overlay but it was not visible when playing the video. I decided to go by the numbers in the show me how tutorial but it went down hill from there. This is a project with both video and still pictures in it. First after I dropped the media generator into the overlay time line above a picture it says it is out of sight and to scroll left to see it. Eventually it then says it is too small so make it bigger. OK. Then this goes on and on back and forth. I then see a string of the media generator in the time line. I am using default text checkered icon. I get tired of going back and forth and enlarging it so I look again and see I am working in video media generated text which I didn't select. I selected media generators. This happens every time I try to insert text. Anyone know what I an doing wrong???

I've determined that the text is there of course but it doesn't come through picture. This will take some investigating.

How about if you just drag and drop one of the Text presets right from the Media Generator previews to the timeline?

Like this:

Does that work?

No luck. If it is in the video timeline it blocks out the video If it is in the video overlay the generated text is not seen. I've been working on something all day so if you answer this I wont get back until tomorrow. i'm bushed. thanks. Have a great and noisy fourth. I'll try anything. As I said I've had no problems prior to this. I'll try to find a previous video where it works and see why it works there. But that is tomorrow. I't some setting I'm sure. D

Remember the text must be on a track ABOVE the video track.

True. I got it to work but I had to remove the video in the project leaving just photos in the project. I am using Premium 9. Of course the short video of about a minute is important to the project. If this is actually how this is supposed to work then I don't seem to have any alternative but to put text in the picture but it seems to me sony would have taken this into account when sony wrote it. So far every time I have noticed media generator is the only generator in view. But when I tried to put the media in the overlay track "video media generator" showed in view if this short video piece was in the timeline. .

It would be helpful if you could post a screenshot of your tracks for a project that doesn't work.

Do you understand what Edward is saying? Vegas sees media from the top down? If your text titles are not on the top track above all others, they won't be seen.

I could do that but I found that if the project is a mix of video and still photos vegas will not allow text to overlay. It will come up solid and the overlay blocks out the video I removed all the video and the overlay works correctly. I went back and opened a completed project of only video and the overlay worked properly. I'm looking for a setting to fix this as I'd like overlay to work on this mixed project if I can get it to work.

To get to Architect directly in Vegas 9 go to All Programs and select sony then Architect from the list and so on until a clear Architect will come up with list of late projects I should have known that! This in response to my rant that I could not get to Architect other than through Sony Vegas 9

This will take more looking at. I went back to a previous completed project and the overlay principle worked ok. It was a project with about 13 minutes of video and 30 seconds of still's. So I'll keep looking. It should work

Yea, that's the point I was trying to make. It should work. I've used video and stills all the time in Movie Studio with title overlays and it works fine. That's why I asked for a screen shot so we could spot what was going wrong. As long as you have it figured out that's good too.

OK, alls well that end well. I finally noticed that the track was grey. So finally decided to look into that. When I hit the exclamation point it clear up the track and now is ok. Thanks.
