Capture WS content from a 4:3 camera?
by Matt Lewis on Oct 23, 2006 at 7:03:26 pm

I just returned from a symposium where we rented a panasonic camcorder (AG-DVX100B) and i brought my Sony TRV-950. Video was recorded on both. However, the person who set up the Panasonic set it up to record in WS format. My Sony only supports 4:3, to my knowledge. Is it impossible to capture the WS Panasonic video IN WS FORMAT using the Sony camera and Vegas 7?
Kind Regards,
ML

Just try it and let us know you're results. I wouldn't be surprised if it works just fine.

Well here's the thing: the way i'm capturing the video, it imports it as a 4:3 letterboxed image, just like you would see on a 4:3 set. However, when i drag that captured video into the Vegas timeline (WS format), i end up with an image that has both top/bottom and side/side letterboxes, just as you would see if you were watching a 4:3 program on a WS TV. In other words, the image is just a smaller rectangle in the middle of the screen. Now, i can crop it back up to occupy the entire screen, but i have a feeling that i'm loosing much of the resolution from the original Panasonic-recorded WS video, correct?
