How to copy paste from one track to another ?
by Harcharan Singh (Harcharan) on Aug 30, 2008 at 6:32:35 pm

Hi,
I am Avid Composer 3 newbie.
I am trying to copy an portion of one video track in the timeline to a different location on video track above it.
I marked the clip In out and then by pressed CTRL+C to copy clip and them moved the timehead in timeline where I had to copy it and pressed CTRL+C but it pasted the item on the same video track I copied from.
Can someone help?
Thks
Harcharan

Make sure you have your 2d video track enabled, and your first track disabled (the active track is usually pink, and the disabled track is usually grey).

Copy/Paste always pastes on the same track you copied from.

Instead of hitting Ctrl+C to copy, hit Alt+C to copy your selected portion of your timeline to your source monitor, move your playhead to where you want to paste it, mark your In point, repatch your tracks, and cut/splice it in.

You can also just hit C to copy your selected region to your clipboard monitor, but then you have to go to Tools-->Clipboard monitor to have access to it. Alt+C loads it into your source monitor, which I find more convenient.
