Deck not recognized in new computer
by Jannel Eng on Jun 24, 2008 at 1:47:21 am

I've been working on a VAIO and have decided to upgrade to a new DELL. Everything worked fine on the VAIO but it was a 3yr old computer and I decided to update.

On the VAIO everything worked fine. The deck (Sony DCR-TRV19) had no problem configuring. Now on the DELL the computer itself recognizes the camcorder but when I go to check decks or adjust deck its as if there is nothing plugged into the computer. Please help.

Have you set up your ports for Avid? You need to select your firewire port on OHCI, I think (not in front of a system). That way Avid will know where to look for the deck.

Michael.

My computer does not have firewire ports only usb ports which what I use to import the video. Does that matter?

Unless you get a firewire card, you won't be able to capture video from a tape deck through a USB port in Avid.

What software were you using before?

I am using avid 4.6

Would the problem be solved by adding firewire ports? Do you recommend a certain type that would run with the system?

Firewire is the preferred method (the only method, without a DNA device) to capture your videotape. You'll need to get a card supported by the software you are using (search Avid's site for a specific model, or look in your readme file).
