master clips from subclips...
by John Collins on Jun 18, 2008 at 5:05:08 am

Im fairly new to avid so I thought I'd ask for some advice; I've been working on a project that has many 2 hour master clips, so I've sorted my selects into bins as subclips. Im wondering if once if put the subclips on the timeline, or even from the source window, if there is a shortcut to bring up the master clip that the subclip is taken from?

Use "matchframe" to locate the clip and put it in the source window.

Yes, if you cut a subclip into your timeline and matchframe it, the subclip is loaded into the source monitor. Hit Matchframe again (with the source monitor active) and it will load the master clip.

If you find you don't need/want to keep the master clips, select the subclips you want to keep and consolidate them. It will create masterclips out of the subclips so you can delete the original masterclips. I do this for long interviews--capture the tape, subclip the good answers, consolidate those and delete the original master clips.

Michael.
