In a quandry as to what my workflow should be. I'm using W7, 64 bit, adobe CS5.5 My project is going to use a lot of 8 and 16mm film transferred to ProRes 720p 422 files, uncompressed and sent to me on a hard drive. These are quick time files.I don't see that option when opening a new project so the question is how do I determine what to use for my project. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated and thanks in advance.

Premiere Pro doesn't use a specific project setting or config depending on media. That come when you create the sequence. Simply let Premiere create an initial sequence at project creation at whatever setting it offers, then create another sequence by dragging one of your media files onto the 'New Sequence' button. Premiere will create the sequence to the exact specs that you need for that media. You can then delete the initial sequence that Premiere created at Project start.

Wonderful and many thanks. One more question, should I create the project with the two options I have, either HDV or DV? Or will what you suggested allow HD within the DVD setting. As you can probably tell I'm just a bit new at starting projects but I have what I think is a killer system and just want the project to be right from the git-go. I'm producing a documentary of my shoot down and rescue from Laos while piloting a USMC Phantom. I've recovered quite a bit of 8mm and 16mm actual combat footage and have had it transferred and hope I made the right decision to have it sent to me on a disk in the ProRes 720p 422 HD format I mentioned. Many thanks again-Gary

The DV or HDV choice is strictly related to tape capture. If you aren't capturing from tape, then it's meaningless.

Steve, I would be more than happy to send you a copy but would need to have you e-mail me. I don't want to break protocal on the forum as this is the first I've used it in a couple of years and don't recall about posting personal e-mails and websites here. Let me know and I'll send you a contact-Thanks-Gary

Also I would like to ask one more question please. Assuming I opened my CS5.5 with no sequence and then import the ProRes 720p 422 into the project as suggested, and then I want to add some other lesser quality clips, like MPEG2 or similar, and with wanting to make my completed DVD in 16:9, do I simply crop the differing images in the program window to accomodate the different formats to obtain the 16:9 output? Thanks in advance-Gary

[Steve Brame] " You can then delete the initial sequence that Premiere created at Project start."

You can also hit cancel when making the initial sequence and you'll start your project without a sequence.

I've found that when I do this, and then create a new sequence from a media clip, the timeline window doesn't open at the bottom of my screen, necessitating that I reset my Workspace. A minor hassle, but saves a little time and aggravation.
