Al BergsteinMetadata Logging - Copy field info to next clip?

So I am ramping up with metadata logging for my clips, have a bunch of MXF clips ready to log, and have the Metalogging workspace open. I have the window on the right with the Clip info fields and want to copy and paste a lot of similar information from clip to clip. I.E. Tape Name, Scene, Client. How do I do that? I expect to find some kind of icon or keystroke to "copy the last clip field" info into this, as I am simply moving from clip to clip working down the media browser. I cannot seem to find any way to do this, including cutting and pasting, since it's multiple fields. What gives? Do I need another third party tool to do that?

Here's a sample of what I mean.

(I posted this at Adobe as well.)

Thanks in advance...

yours in metadata logging (G)

I was wondering this myself and I think I have your answer. Select all the clips to which you want to add identical metadata (i.e. tape, shot, client, etc.) in your bin or project pane and with the clips selected, open your metadata pane and enter info into any particular field. All the selected clips should then be updated with the same info in that field.

Good try Nick. I thought of that too. The problem is *prior* to getting the clips in the bins. The problem I have is that when I have a days worth of shots, and I have chosen the 'metalogging' window, I am trying to find the right clips in the media browser, prior to bringing them in. The raw clips, shown in the media browser, show no metadata other than file name (as shown in the upper right hand pane of that window. I want to have the fields filled out, either prior to getting them shown in the media browser, or at the least, when I click on them, I want to *act* on them by labeling them as I go. If I want, for example, to enter the client name in all the clips, I cannot do that, prior to actually importing them. I'm going to go explore using Adobe Bridge. There may be some hope there. It seems that the metadata is not the same as the vendor provides. I.E. Canon's MXF utility does not have a field for *client*. Adobe does.

You are correct that once in the bins, you can do a lot more with the clip data. Either we'll figure this out, or I'm sure Adobe will eventually get it right. With three cameras of shooting and multiple days of takes, I'm drowning in metadata hell right now, and have been needing as much help as possible to track as much data as I can, especially beyond the file names. As I search for relevant clips, I need all the help I can get to log what I find along the way. As a small shop, I can't hire a full time meta logging person. That's me!

Back to work.
