Buggy Elements 4, Fixes?

Greetings.
I'm working on a simple series logo. Four small videos play then size down and move into a line accross the screen. The title starts from out of focus then comes into focal at about the halfway point. It's a whopping 22 second piece. I've got 4 tracks of video with motion and scale effects (using keyframes) taking place on one layer at a time, another video track for the blur-to-clear title and one track of audio.
The program is crashing frequently on this piece. Sometimes it misbehaves (won't show something properly), sometimes it weirds out in different ways, other times it gives me "I'm sorry, but I cannot render your movie" and occasionally I get the windows "you're hosed" message. The programs capabilities are great but it's impossible to work if I have to stop and restart every 5 minutes.
Any ideas? Did anyone else have this problem and, more importantly, find a solution?
Computer is Dell 1520 w/ 3gb ram and 2.5Tb hard drive connected through USB ports.
