How do I export widescreen?

I am using premiere 6 and have just finished a video which has been shot and edited in widescreen. When I go to export it the footage comes out at the top of the screen with a black line underneath. Does anyone know how I can export the film with the picture in the middle and black lines either side?
I have tried 'interpret footage' but it doesnt seem to make a difference. It asks me to 'Assume This Frame Rate' which I don't know what to type in anyhow.

Some cameras don't shoot in true widescreen, your footage might be letterboxed widescreen.
Assuming your footage is true widescreen...
Your project should be widescreen, indicated by a 1.2 Pixel Aspect Ratio (16:9) in the project settings.
Your footage should also have a PAR of 1.2 (16:9).
Frame Rate settings don't affect Aspect Ratio.
I assume the frame looks correct in the preview window, the image fills the frame..
Your export settings should also be set with a 1.2 PAR.
If your footage is letterboxed widescreen you would need to deinterlace and upscale the video to fill the 16:9 frame.
